Your June Music News...

Wow, how are we already half way through the year?! Fortunately, there is still plenty of exitement to come for MusicNT members. Nominations for the NT Song of the Year closed last night and People's Choice voting commencing on June 18. If you're keen to get involved with the Bush Bands Program you'll need to get your entries in by the end of next week. The Desert Divas kick off their regional tour next week and will be hitting the Darwin Railway Club on June 29. Earlier this week the Darwin Fringe Festival program was announced for 2018, this year's festival will feature a showcase performance from our Saltwater Divas on July 15 so be sure to grab your tickets ASAP. There are some exciting opportunities on offer for Fresh Mint artists, be sure to submit your songs this month to find out more.

Saltwater Divas Applications OPEN

Are you from the Top End and interested in participating in our Saltwater Divas workshop and performance opportunity? Entries are open for Indigenous female singer/songwriters, rappers and musicians who are keen to collaborate with others who share a passion for music. The Saltwater Divas program consists of four days of musical workshops and will conclude with a showcase performance in the 2018 Darwin Fringe Festival on July 15. Head to our website to apply.

2018 Bush Bands Application Deadline Extended

Thinking of applying for this year's Bush Bands Program but haven't quite got around to it yet? You're in luck! Entries have been EXTENDED until June 15!!! Don't miss out on your chance to get involved in Alice Spring's biggest celebration of contemporary Indigenous music. Head to musicnt.com.au for more information.

MusicNT Present Bands, Budgets and Balancing the Books

It’s tax time, which means one thing: we need to talk money. Join APRA AMCOS and MusicNT for a practical session on Wednesday, July 4, aimed at helping you understand tax, your finances and good business practices - just in time to help you prepare a tax return. Facilitated by Sarah McEachern from Nexia Edwards Marshall NT and Fiona Carter (Corrugated Iron/MusicNT), the session will kick off at 5.30pm at MusicNT's Darwin office. This is a vital session for artists, managers and small music business owners looking to make the most of their money. This workshop is FREE for APRA AMCOS members - spaces are limited, so please RSVP to nt@apra.com.au.

Desert Divas Tour Dates Announced for Katherine & Darwin

The 2018 Desert Divas regional tour, proudly presented by Artback NT and MusicNT, kicks off on Monday. This tour is a cultural fusion of voices, lyrics and music from artists that cover the whole gamut of musical expression from country to soul and rock. Experience four artists collectively perform their original music, bringing together each unique style in one uplifting and moving show. The Divas tour will be hitting Katherine on June 28, and Darwin on June 29. 

Indigenous Women with Music Industry Experience - We Need You!

MusicNT is calling for Expressions of Interest from Indigenous women with a range of industry skills and experience to apply for membership on a new Industry Reference Group. The Reference Group will assist us in planning, coordinating, operating and evaluating our Indigenous Women’s Music Program. For more information or to send through an application, click here.

Barunga Festival, this Weekend!

The Katherine-region's annual Barunga Festival kicks off today! This year's festival marks 30-years since the Barunga Statement and encourages remote Indigenous communities to come together and celebrate the positive aspects of community life through football, basketball, softball, music, traditional arts and culture. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend, with tickets available through Moshtix.

Australian Music Week Showcase Applications are open!

 

Applications are now open for artists and bands interested in performing in the annual Australian Music Week Showcase, which is returning for its fourth year to Sydney from 7-11 November. Staged across five days, AMW showcases over 150 performances across a wide range of genres and presents more than 20 panels addressing the latest industry issues. Applications for the showcase close on Tuesday, August 21, apply here.

New Festival CHANGES Announced

On July 4 and 5 2018, CHANGES, a collaboration between The Push, Yarra City Council, Music Victoria and the Victorian music community, is assembling a roster of ground breaking voices, programming, and events to highlight innovation in music industry through music, technology, talks and ideas. Held within the stunning ACU Melbourne Campus, CHANGES will begin to draw a roadmap for the future. MusicNT members are also offered a 15% discount on tickets. Email your membership details to info@amin.org.au to receive your discount code.

Inaugural Women in Music Awards Nominations open

Nominations have opened for the inaugural Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA), to be held in Brisbane on October 9 and 10. The aim of the AWMAs is to redress the underrepresentation of women in the Australian music scene by recognising the value, achievements and contributions of women in the industry. Nominations can be made via the Australian Women in Music Awards website until July 12.

Entries Open for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award

Entries are open for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Awards, sponsored by Telstra. Students are encouraged to recognise exceptional music teachers who have influenced their lives. Nominees will be selected and partnered with a renowned Australian musician who will visit your school or music tuition program, and help tell Australia about the incredible job they do.
