First Nations Arts Awards 2020

Join us for the First Nations Arts Awards 2020

Wednesday 27 May 2020, 6.00pm AEST – LIVE online

Dear colleague,

We invite you to join us for the First Nations Arts Awards 2020. Formerly the National Indigenous Arts Awards, the First Nations Arts Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding creativity and lifetime achievements of First Nations artists. The awards are held annually on the 27 May marking the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the recipients of this year’s awards will be revealed during a live streamed event, hosted by Deputy Chair Lee-Ann Tjunypa Buckskin and Chair of the First Nations Arts Strategy Panel and Sydney Festival Artistic Director Wesley Enoch, with a guest performance from the Stiff Gins.

On the night, we will announce the recipients of the prestigious Red Ochre Awards for outstanding lifetime achievement, the Dreaming Award for an emerging artist, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Fellowship for a mid-career artist.

We will also be celebrating the many First Nations artists who have received other Australia Council awards in the last year.
Celebrations that bring us together when we are physically apart are very important in these uncertain times. We’d love everyone to join! Please share this invitation with your networks. This is an inclusive and accessible online event.

We will be in touch over the coming weeks with details on how you can tune in and send your congratulations to the recipents.

For further enquiries, please contact Michael Hutchings, Project Manager, First Nations on +61 490 299 493 or at m.hutchings@australiacouncil.gov.au.
